


Her career has always been defined by tenacity and an independent spirit, stretching back to her first competitive race in San Diego, when she beat better-outfitted, more experienced kids. Coming off Heartbreak Hill at Mile 22, Des took the lead and never relinquished it, becoming the 2018 Boston Marathon champion and the first American woman to win the race in thirty-three years. Des tapped into her inner strength and found a reason to race.

"And when you have really great people that are supposed to beat you, it's fun to be a disruptor and see how many you can take out and move up the charts when it gets hard, because they're not as experienced with the course." "The field's just phenomenal, so it'll be a historic race, for sure," she says. Now, five years later, Linden has figured out how to manage her thyroid condition - "it's in a good spot now," she says - and is readying for the 2023 Boston start line.
